We listened to our literacy story, The Missing Moon Mystery on CD in partners.
Before lunch we read another parody. We read the parody that goes with the story, The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown. The parody is called, The Runway Mummy. See if your child can tell you the similarities and differences between the two stories!
In math today we worked on a tricky concept: making change. We practiced the strategy of counting up. We used these two rules:
1. Count up to the next group of 10.
2. Count by 10's up to 100.
For example:
An apple cost 23 cents. You pay with 50 cents. How much change do you get back?
The next group of 10 after 20 is 30. Counting up from 23 to 30 = 7 cents. Counting by 10's from 30 to 50 = 20 cents. 7 cents + 20 cents = 27 cents. We will continue to practice this at school. If you have spare change or play money, this is a great concept to work on at home!
