We ended the day playing Learning Bingo with our 4th grade buddies. Mr. Engel even had hot chocolate and popcorn for us as a treat! What a nice surprise!

Read-In!
This morning we had a Read-In party. Students were able to bring a stuffed animal to keep them company while they read. We read independently, we watched a Bookflix, we were able to see some new books at the library, and read the final chapter of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We will start a wonderful new chapter book in January!

Coloring Designs
Today we worked on a pattern art project. Students chose from a variety of shapes. They chose either warm colors or cool colors. The challenge was to not have the same color touch sides. A "point" of the same color could touch, but not a whole side. They turned out beautiful!

Wrapping Up the Week!
We are always busy learning! This week we have been busy working on:
Working on our problem and solution stories.
- monitoring our comprehension in literacy - Good readers think about their reading, they re-read if they don't understand something and they use strategies to help them figure things out. They don't just keep reading if they don't understand something!
- problem and solution stories in writing
- reviewing telling time, making change and making ballpark estimates in math
- practicing a variety of strategies to add and subtract numbers in math
- geography -
- naming the seven continents and four oceans
- knowing what continent we live on and what country we live on
- how to read a map - compass rose, symbols/key
Working on our problem and solution stories.

Meeting Author Erin Soderberg!
Today we met Erin Soderberg, the author of The Quirks.
It was fun to hear her talk about her life and how she came up with the idea for the book. *See if your child can tell you what her favorite job is!
She even read a couple of pages from the book.
The second Quirk book comes out in February!

City Hall
Today we visited city hall to wrap up our government unit. Our first stop was public works. We saw a couple of the big snow plows. Most of the big trucks were out working.
Next we went to the new fire station.
We learned about the special helmets that the fire fighters wear.
We even got to try the on! They are heavy!
Then we got to see some of the big fire trucks.
We even got a chance to sit in one!
Next we visited the police station. We saw where the jail is. The jail cells do not look very comfortable!
Then we got to see a real police car and sit in it!
Finally we met Mayor Dan Roe. We learned a lot about how the city or Roseville is run. We had a fun field trip!
