Literacy iPad Time
Today we had the iPads checked out. We spent a little bit of literacy exploring some of the reading/literacy apps with a partner!

Visualizing a Story
Today we did a visualizing activity. I showed 6 different pictures to the kids. They sketched a quick picture of each one onto their sheet.
Next they had to write down an memory or connection that they had to any of the words.
Then they wrote down words that they pictures reminded them of.
After that they wrote a quick story about what they thought the story would be about. They did such a good job coming up with stories that made sense based on the pictures/clues, logic, knowing that stories need a plot, etc.!
Finally I read the story to them. Queen of the Falls by Chris Van Allsburg. A great story based on true events! Ask you child what they story was about and what they thought the story would be about!

March for Hunger
Today we had a special assembly to bring together all of our donated goods! Each student got to take down an item and drop it off at the table in the gym. Our school donated 1,084 items! Thank you to everyone who donated items!

Learning with Our 4th Grade Buddies!
Today we worked with our 4th grade buddies. They taught us how to read non-fiction using "skimming and scanning." We also learned a cool new way to write stories called, "snake!" Ask your child about both of these!
We also voted on our favorite Star of the book in library. Each student got to vote on his/her favorite. Ask your child which one he/she voted for! We also received a special prize book for winning the door decorating contest. Ask your child about the new book!

Working Hard
Today we continued to work on finding more facts about our animals from books. Yesterday we went into the computer lab and drew pictures in KidPix. Everyone did a great job! After we finish up note taking, we will start writing our main idea paragraphs for each topic.

More Research
Today we continued to do more research on our animal reports. Students looked up more information in books to add to the notes that they took last week. They did a great job of working together, finding new facts and paraphrasing the information. Tomorrow we go into the computer lab to draw a picture of their animal in KidPix.
