We are also continuing to work on place value. Everyone is getting better at reading large numbers, even numbers into the millions! Ask your child some of the ways that we practice place value!

March for Others Assembly
At the end of the day on Friday we had a special assembly to end our March for Others food drive. Every classroom brought down the items that were donated to the gym. We put all of them on a table in the middle of the gym.
Then we had a special surprise visitor! Blaze came to help us find out how many itmes our school donated! Our school donated 1,809 items! All of these items go to the food shelf at our Roseville high school. The staff that help run the food shelf at the high school and a high school student came over to share more about the food shelf.
Students are able to come as often as they need to get food or other items for themselves and/or their families. The item that is most used/needed is toothpaste! They told us that out of all of the places that they get donations from, our school gives the most donations!
Thank you to all of the families that donated items! It makes a big difference to a lot of students and families.
Then we had a special announcement from Ms. Connelly about Bengal Pride. Some of our fourth grade buddies stood up and talked about ways that they have seen Bengal Pride being shown at school. Ms. Connelly told us that during the month of April teachers and staff will be watching for students who are showing Bengal Pride in the hallways, bathroom and lunchroom. Special orange tickets will be given out for showing Bengal Pride in these areas. The grade level with the most orange tickets at the end of the month wins a DANCE PARTY!
Each grade level had one student who was randomly chosen to come up and practice showing us what a dance party would look like! That student got to choose a friend to bring with them. We had two students from our class go up! They did a great job along with other students showing us what the dance party will be like!

Final Results!
Fortunately our missing banana was found! Another class accidentally grabbed it from the refrigerator. They kindly returned it to us!
This is how our bananas looked today.
Left to right:
Banana #1 - freezer
Banana #2 - refridgerator
Banana #3 - zip lock bag
Banana #4 - up high
We cut each one open to see what they looked like on the inside. At this point there didn't seem to be a lot of different in color.

We concluded that the best way to keep a banana fresh is to either keep it in a zip lock bag or out on the counter. Everyone did a great job using the scientific method, making observations and writing up the results!

Missing Banana!
Unfortunately today our banana that was in the refrigerator went missing! We talked about how unexpected things can happen to scientists and their experiments. We brainstormed some different solutions for what we could do. We decided to do our best with making a prediction based on what we have seen with the banana the past few days. The group that had their banana in the refrigerator were good sports and made adjustments! We're hoping that it might turn up!

The Great Banana Experiment: Day 2 Observations
We are continuing to observe our bananas! Ask your child about what they notice about his/her group's banana compared to the other group's banana. See if he/she has any ideas or theories on why the bananas are changing or not changing.

Can you guess which banana came from the freezer, fridge, up high and in the zip lock bag?

The Great Banana Experiment!
Today we
started our "Great Banana Experiment." We talked about how scientists
need to experiment in order to find out what works and what doesn't
work. I posed this question? "How can I keep my banana fresh?" I put
the students into four groups. Each group discussed possible ideas/ways
to keep a banana fresh. This is what the groups came up with:
#1 - Put it in the freezer.
#2 - Put in the the fridge.
#3 - Put it in the zip lock bag.
#4 - Put it up high.
We talked about the scientific method and recorded our information in our journals - the questions - How can I keep my banana fresh?, each group recorded their prediction and a short hypothesis. We will make daily observations this week and record our findings!

Jump Rope for Heart
This afternoon the second graders participated in Jump Rope for Heart with the fifth graders! They did a great job!
4th Grade Buddy Time!
This morning we got together with our 4th grade buddies! We shared our weather reports with them. Our class showed them PebbleGo and how we use it to look up information. Our 4th grade buddies showed us a new app too! Ask your child if they got a chance to experiment with it!

Fun Day!
This morning we did a health review quiz using Kahoot.
After that we went and saw some of the 6th graders perform the play, "Rockin' Snow White." They did a great job! Ask your child about his/her favorite part!
