Research
Today we did research on explorers for our symbol book. We used the website, PebbleGo to get our information. The kids followed along on their iPad with a partner while I did it on the SMART board.
First we looked at different explorers from the United States. Each partner group looked at an explorer. They read about their early life, contributions, etc.
Next we took notes in our special note taking notebooks. We have been practicing taking notes in guided reading, so this was a great parallel activity! We have been focusing on determining the important information. We make bullet points with words or shorter phrases. Finally we cited our resource at the end.
Finally we will write about our research in our Symbol Book.
Today we read another parody on Good Night Moon called Good Night iPad. It was another fun book!

Good Night Goon
We read Good Night Moon a couple of times to really get the story in our heads.
Today we ready Good Night Goon. We talked about how a parody is usually a funny version of a familiar book or story. The important thing is that it copies the same style or pattern of the original book/author.
After I read Good Night Goon one time through. I held up each book simultaneously so that they could see how the pattern and style matched in each book. They enjoyed seeing the similar story structure!
I have a couple of more parodies that go with Good Night Moon! Stay tuned!

Working Hard
Today we were busy doing many things!
We are working on taking good notes using a non-fiction book.
We started a new literacy unit. We are thinking about what the important things are in a story and determining what is most important.
We looked at a cool website that we will use for doing research this year. This week we will be using it to help us research explorers.
We started the sixth Mercy Watson book!
Mrs. Kath did a quick follow-up experiment with balloon rockets with our class today. Ask you child about it!
We are finishing up our air and weather unit. Today we talked about the different seasons. We worked on a picture that showed how a tree changes throughout the seasons.
We took a math test this afternoon.
It was a busy day!

Today. . .
Today we read a new book in library! A book with no pictures? That doesn't sound like fun! Ask your child what made this pretty cool, despite not having any pictures!
Today we reviewed some weather concepts by playing Kahoot.
Today I read a classic book, Good Night Moon. Next week we will be reading some special books that "pair" up Good Night Moon. Stay tuned!
