Interrupting Chicken

Today we read a book called Interrupting Chickenn to help reinforce the concept of not blurting out or interrupting when someone else is talking.  See if your child can tell you the story AND show you the sign language sign for "interrupting chicken."

 

Here are some things that we have worked on this week:

In literacy we continue to work on making good connections when we read.  We looked at words ending in -ake, -ine, -oke and -ute.  We talked about how the silent e makes the vowel sound long.  We worked on these vocabulary words this week: rely, role and member.

In writing we worked on writing "small moment" stories.  A small moment story is taking one single thing that happened and growing it into a story. It doesn't necessarily have to be anything extra exciting or out of the ordinary.  For example, it might be telling a story about one thing you did during the day.  Or one part of a birthday party instead of telling about the whole entire birthday party. Everyone had some great stories to tell!  See if your child can tell you the two stories that I used as an example!

In math we worked on fact triangles, frames and arrow problems and "What's My Rule."  These are all things that should be familiar to them from first grade.  Don't forget to practice basic addition and subtraction facts at home!

Today in science we made a calendar that we will keep track of the weather on for the next few weeks.  You can help at home by asking your child to observe and talk about the weather - air temperature, wind, rain, snow, sun, etc.
