Favorite Book

One of my favorite books of all time is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. I started reading it to the kids. They are loving it! I absolutely love to see how enthralled they get and how disappointed they are when I have to stop. They are amazing readers who love and appreciate good books! Thank you to all the families for helping to make reading so important!

Math Today!

Right now in math we are working on place value. We are also continuing to review double digit subtracting with regrouping. After our regular math journal pages we had time to do a turkey dice activity. See if your child can tell you about it!

Literacy Today!

This is a typical literacy routine for us: We gather together on the carpet. First we start with our grammar packets. We work through things like fixing up sentences, naming nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. Next we take out our note taking notebooks. We are practicing taking good notes. We go through the literacy lesson and I direct students on important things to write down. This week we are looking at -are, -ire and -ore words. We also talked about the vocabulary word, reside.

Then we read a great book by Jon Klassen, I Want My Hat Back. Previously we read, This Is Not My Hat. We are working on making good inferences. See if your child can tell you about these two stories and the inferences that we made!

All School Learning Bingo!

Today we played All School Learning Bingo! Some of our kids went down to Mr. Engel's room to play with their fourth grade buddy. Other kids stayed in our room and their buddy came down to join them. We had a great time!

Thankful Books

Today we made thankful books! The books has different sections to fill in: thankful for things at home, thankful for things at school, thankful for things outside and thankful for talents.

It was a lot of cutting and assembling! But everyone did a great job! They turned out awesome! Ask your child to show you his/her book!
