Exploring Air

Yesterday we explored air with different objects in a bag.  We saw how air moves different objects in different ways.  We learned that air is a form of matter.  Air is an invisible mixture of gases.

Today we explored air with water, a plastic vial, a plastic-foam ball and a paper towel.

We posed these different questions:
  • Is there air in the vial?  How do you know?
  • If you push the vial straight down in to the water, is the air still in the vial?  How do you know?
  • How did it feel when you pushed the vial into the water upside down?
  • Where do the bubbles come from?
  • Can you submerge your vial and still keep the paper towel dry?

See if your child can tell you what we learned!
