Math Games

Yesterday and today we practiced some math facts by playing some math games.

Addition Top-It: There are two ways to play this game. Divide the deck equally among all the players. 1. Each player turns a card over at the same time. The person who adds the two cards together the fastest wins and takes both cards. 2. Or each player turns over two cards at the same time. The person who has the largest sum takes all four cards. If both players have the same sum, each player turns over two more cards and the player with the largest sum takes all eight cards.

Name That Number: Lay five cards out in a row. Put all of the other cards in a pile. Turn the top card over on the pile of cards. That is the "target" number. One player tries to make that number by either adding or subtracting at least two of the numbers/cards. If the player is able to make that number, he/she takes the target number and the cards used to make that number. Replace the cards with new cards from the deck and the turn over a new target number. If the number can't be made. A new card is put on top and it is the next player's turn.

*We use special "Everyday Math Deck" cards. But a regular deck of cards can work as well.

This a great way to practice math fact fluency!
