This literacy theme has focused on elections and voting. We read two different books both titled, Grace for President. This one talked about how the electoral college works. So today we practiced voting the electoral college way!
Students were able to vote between a food treat or a "random surprise." First, each student picked a colored card. That card represented what "state" they would be in.
Next they found the other kids who were in their "state." Some states had more people than others, just like in the real world.
Then
representatives from each state came out to the hallway to learn about
the two different choices. Their job was to go back to their "state" and report to them about the two different choices.
Next states talked together and decided on which choice to cast their electoral votes.
The
representatives cast the ballots for their state. States
with more people got more electoral votes.
Waiting for the results!
A foot treat was the winner by one vote!
