Stacking Cup Challenge

Today we did a team building activity. Each group of students was given six plastic cups and a rubber band with four pieces of yarn attached to it. The job of each group was to stack the cups in a pyramid. The challenge was that their hands/finger could not touch the cups! They could only use the rubber band and yarn to move the cups.

Each group started with the plastic cups right side up. Their first challenge was to figure out how to turn the plastic cups upside down. Then they had to figure out how to work as a group to stack the cups into a pyramid.

It took a lot of teamwork and communication! Many times the cups would get knocked over or fall of. Each group had to work together to figure out the best strategy.

Some groups were successful in stacking their cups into a pyramid!

Afterwards we talked about how important it is to work together as a team. We talked about how sometimes when we work with other people we don't always see things the same way or have the same ideas about how to accomplish a goal. The important thing is to communicate in a positive way - encouraging, supporting, etc. We talked about how this is important when we do activities like this, work on projects at school together and do things in real life with other people.

We will continue to work on supporting and encouraging each other to do our best job at school!
