Guided Reading

We started our guided reading groups this week! Each week every student meets several times with me. This week we focused on non-fiction books. We talked about different non-fiction text features. See if your child can tell you what some of them are! (table of contents, glossary, index, bold face words, graphs, charts, etc.)

This group is practicing taking notes from a book. This is a skill that all students will be working on throughout the year!
 

When students are not meeting with me they are working on work at their desks. Each day we practice spelling. Ask your child some of the different ways that we practice our spelling! We work on vocabulary words, special worksheets that go with our literacy theme, writing in a journal, read to self, etc. They are doing a great job of working hard and independently so that I can meet with students!
