Team Building: Stacking Cups

Today we did a team building activity to help foster working with different people and encouraging each other.

Students were put in a group of 4 or 5 students.  Each group had 6 cups and one rubber band with a piece of yarn attached to the rubber band, one piece of yarn for each person.  The goal was to stack all 6 cups into a pyramid without touching the cups with their hands.

Teams had to work together to figure out how to stretch the rubber band in order to fit it around the cup, lift it up and place it in the pyramid.

Success!  Some groups were able to accomplish it more quickly than others, but all groups were successful!

After we were done, we talked about what worked well.  We talked about how in real life sometimes it is easy to work with other people and sometimes it's more challenging.  It is important to learn how to work the best that we can with all kinds of people.  We talked again about how we are like a family.  As a family we want to encourage, help and support each other.  We may not always agree with each other or do things the same way, but we can learn to work together and appreciate and enjoy each other!

Ask your child what he/she took away from this activity!
