Comparing Cinderella Stories

One of our social studies outcomes is to compare different countries to the United States.  We decided to do this by comparing and contrasting different versions of the story of Cinderella.

First we read the traditional version.  After that we talked about the different story elements that are in the Cinderella story.

Today we read The Rough-Face Girl, a Native American version of Cinderella.

After we read it we filled out this sheet together.  We looked at what name the Cinderella character was given, who were the "villains" or "villainesses," what magic was used, what kind of act of kindness or sacrifice did the Cinderella character do, and what were the cultural elements that made this version different than the traditional version.  We will continue to compare and contrast a few more stories!
